This past February I was in Detroit attending an exhibition. With a suggestion from my wonderful Canadian friend, I decided not to let the weather halt any photographic work and hesitantly tried PeerSpace.
PeerSpace is a service similar to AirBnB that offers rentals for many events, including photo shoots. With that in mind, I tried a new model in a renovated vintage PeerSpace.
The whole session was a delight. A quirky, eccentrically decorated old home with handsome, mysterious new model, Alec.
Both house and human offered lots of interesting possibilities in a nicely contained site – contrary to my past locations. Rather nice to not need decontamination afterwards.
And Alec was a treat too! He brought to bear a quiet intensity that mirrored the somber winter light. The steel blue of his eyes, a perfect compliment to the cold weather.
Comfortably entwining himself into each scene, he was the type of person I so enjoy. Point him in a direction and he creates his own scene. It leaves my meager direction moot.
This shoot was a trial that opened new avenues of exploration in many ways. I now have a great alternative option for the urban desolation I usually employ, plus a great new subject.
My thanks to Alec for the spontaneity of his response. Hopefully, more in the future!
